Congratulations to Upper School student and accomplished violinist Nathan Sariowan, Class of 2020, for placing first at the 2019 MTAC Concerto Competition Division VI Strings. The competition was held on Sunday, Feb. 3, and hosted by the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), attracted talented music students in winds, piano, and strings from around the county.
Nathan played the moving “Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D Minor, 1st movement,” for judges. Perhaps it was Nathan’s beautiful and delicate opening to the piece or Nathan’s meticulous talent for jumping gracefully to the higher registers of the violin and back that impressed the panel. But, one thing is known that Nathan is no stranger to the spotlight as a violinist and in 2017, Nathan was invited to play on stage with The Piano Guys at their San Diego concert. In 2018, Nathan won first place in the intermediate strings category at the VOCE Competition. When he is not practicing his violin, Nathan is heavily involved with the Parker’s robotics team.
