Parker’s Upper School robotics team, the W.A.R. Lords (We Are Robot Lords), attended the FIRST Robotics 2019 Las Vegas Regional competition on Sunday and returned with the most prestigious award of the event—the Chairman’s Award.
This award honors the team that best emulates and embodies the mission of FIRST—transforming the culture of robotics in ways that inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, as well as encouraging today’s youth to become leaders in STEM fields.
“While we have won this award twice before, it is a major accomplishment and big mark for our program,” remarked Ryan Griggs, Upper School robotics teacher. “This season only two percent of teams worldwide will achieve this honor. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication of our students.”
Earning the Chairman’s Award automatically qualifies the team to compete at the national FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Championship in Houston, Texas in April. However, they already punched their ticket for nationals by earning the Engineering Inspiration Award earlier in the season.
Additionally, during their time at the Las Vegas competition, the team earned the Safety Award for their dedication to a culture of safety.
The W.A.R. Lords have come a long way since their establishment in fall 2007, acquiring more than 25 awards and recognitions. Receiving the Chairman’s Award for the third time pushes them closer to being considered as an inductee into the FRC Hall of Fame. Click here to see the complete list of the team’s awards.
