A mosaic-style mural of Martin Luther King Jr. is unveiled on a wall outside the Visual Arts Building following Day of Understanding on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022.
The artwork, which includes roughly 1,300 wooden tiles painted by students, faculty, and staff, was the culmination of the Color Brave Mural Project.
Being color brave means having candid conversations about race that can help participants better understand each other’s perspectives and experiences. By engaging in ‘Color Brave’ conversations, we have the opportunity to better understand each others’ perspectives and what it means to build a community centered on inclusion and belonging.
