On May 6, 2019, U.S. Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) announced Parker student Pallavi Murthy, Class of 2020, as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. Pallavi’s acrylic painting, At the Community Garden, depicts Parker students caring for the community garden at the school’s Linda Vista Campus.

Representative Peters remarked on the occasion, “Congratulations to our 2019 winner, Pallavi, and all the students who participated in this year’s competition. The creativity and talent of San Diego’s young artists inspires me every year. San Diego is home to some of the best artists, creators, and thinkers in the country and we know artistic skills help fuel the contributions that drive our innovation economy and future workforce. We look forward to welcoming Pallavi and her artwork to Washington, D.C.”

The contest received a total of 76 entries of artwork created by high school students across San Diego. Selected as the contest-winning art piece by professionals from local art institutions, Pallavi’s painting will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
