More than 740 campers took part in Parker’s 2019 Summer Program, a roughly 14-percent increase from the previous year, according to Director of Summer and Extended Day Programs Erika Chapa.

Campers included kids from San Diego, as well as from countries including China, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Sweden.

The increase can be attributed to new programming changes, including more flexible course offerings and available transportation, says Erika. Courses this summer were offered in one-week, two-week, three-week, and six-week sessions.

At the Mission Hills Campus, young students became engineers, chefs, designers, performers, and explorers. The campers grew as students while meeting new friends along the way. With an academic and enrichment-filled morning, the afternoon offerings were targeted to provide a more physical and exploratory experience including sports, nature, and SummerFun! field trips.

The middle and high school-aged students at the Linda Vista Campus experienced six full weeks of study, exploration, invention, research, and mindfulness through the lens of meaningful participation.

Under the direction of professional and creative faculty, students navigated with independence through art, cooking, mathematics, theater, leadership collaboration, music, the humanities, and scientific discovery. Courses were offered for skill enhancement and credit, furthering the student’s ability to see firsthand how active participation in the learning process produces positive decision-making, character building, and the joy of engagement.

“My family is grateful for the transportation offering as it allowed for my child’s participation in the program.”
