The Next-Level Lancer

It’s a sunny fall afternoon on Lauer Field and Upper School student-athletes are hard at work in one of the final sessions of the Next- Level Lancer program for the first trimester.

The students are alternating between relays and conditioning drills, careful to maintain a six-foot distance to adhere to the School’s health and safety protocols. Parker Athletic Trainer Niki Dehner is keeping time on a stopwatch while also shouting encouragement to the teenage athletes.

Connection Through Conversation

It’s a Wednesday evening in mid-November, and Parker parents are gathering online for the inaugural meeting of the “Windows, Mirrors, and Coffee” (WMC) book club. Established by Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) at Lower School Veronica Scott and Lower School Culturally Responsive Literacy Specialist Rebecca Bellingham, the club aims to connect parents from diverse backgrounds through shared experiences and conversations.

Parker students win bronze medal at National History Day

Two recent Parker graduates won a bronze medal at this year’s National History Day competition. 

Elsa Baumgartner ’21 and Adelyn Phillips ’21 captured third place in the Senior Group Performance category at the 2021 Virtual National History Day Contest June 13-19. The Parker duo were one of just four entries representing the State of California to earn medals.

Stephen Cooper named next Parker Football head coach

Linda Vista, Calif. – Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper has been selected as the next head football coach at Francis Parker School, the School announced Monday. 

Stephen comes to Parker after spending four seasons as a linebackers and defensive coach at San Diego High School, where he helped the Cavers win both a CIF championship and a Division 5-A state title in 2018. He has also been active in youth football for the past decade––formerly as a coach with the Balboa Raiders Youth Football and Cheer organization and currently with the San Diego Bolts in Grossmont.
